About Us
Our Philosophy
“Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten”
– Lilo & Stitch
This program has been created based on family. Our values are founded on respect, love, learning, praise and encouragement. Ohana Academy aspires to be your child’s home away from home.
We are committed to providing an opportunity for children to learn, discover and play in a warm and loving environment. We strive to inspire them to grow and develop socially, emotionally and intellectually and spark their imagination to endless possibilities.
Our program respects and values differences, recognizing children are individuals and that every child is unique. We will help them learn how to get along and cooperate with other children and adults, develop skills through active games, and solve problems in their relationships with peers. This will form a positive, confident attitude and personal accomplishment. By providing a structured yet flexible program, the children develop these skills through their activities.
Creating loving relationships with more than just blood relatives is what Ohana is all about.

Meet Taryn
I am the founder of Ohana Academy. Growing up I’ve always known I wanted to work with young children. Their outlook on life and brilliant minds are infectious and I love being surrounded by that everyday. I have been working in the ECE field since 2015. I graduated Douglas College with an Associate of Arts Degree with hopes of becoming a teacher. However, once I started working at a daycare I knew this was where I belonged. During my spare time I love to go paddle boarding, hiking, and walks with my dog. I also love all foods (especially sushi), watching hockey, and attending concerts. But most of all I love to spend my time with my friends, family and dog Emmie.

Meet Charlie
My name is Charlie and I am so thrilled to be a part of this community! After discovering my passion for caring for others, I became an Early Childhood Educator in 2022. I also have a background in Illustration having studied Art at university in England. I find immense joy in observing and creating moments of happiness with the children in my care, watching as they become familiar with the world around them. Outside of work, I enjoy getting lost in a good book and going on long walks. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my fiancé and our little rescue dog Roo, making memories and enjoying the simple things in life here in beautiful Victoria.

Meet Taylor
I am very excited to be joining the Ohana Academy family as an Early Childhood Educator!
For the past few years, I have had the privilege of working across diverse early learning environments, from preschool to both the public and private education systems. My teaching philosophy is inspired by play, and I focus on creating a safe, nurturing space where every child feels empowered to explore and discover the world with confidence. I’m committed to developing the whole child – physically, emotionally, and socially – by cultivating foundational skills like independence, resiliency, and self-confidence, while igniting a lifelong curiousity.
Academically, I hold an Early Childhood Education and Care diploma with a specialization in Diverse Abilities and am currently pursuing completing my bachelor’s degree of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. My commitment to the well-being of all children has deepened through my volunteer work with organizations like BC Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and in Paediatrics at the Victoria General Hospital. When I’m not at work, you can find me reading a good book, exercising, or with one of my many nephews and nieces!
I look forward to meeting you and partnering with you to support your child’s growth at Ohana Academy!
